As your Trustee, I am committed to strong, transparent governance that protects our schools, supports teachers, and ensures students receive a faith-filled education. Strong governance means making accountable decisions, setting clear priorities, and maintaining transparency so that our Catholic schools remain faithful, effective, and sustainable.
Catholic education in Canada exists in several provinces, including Alberta, Ontario, Saskatchewan, Manitoba, and Newfoundland and Labrador. In these provinces, Catholic education is protected under Section 93 of the Constitution Act, 1867, guaranteeing the right to publicly funded denominational schools. This constitutional protection ensures that Catholic schools can continue to operate and that families can access education that reflects their faith.
In Alberta, programs such as Growing in Faith, Growing in Christ for Grades K–8, national programs for Grades 8–9, and locally developed high school programs are approved by the Alberta Bishops and endorsed by the Catholic Bishops of Alberta, Ontario, and Saskatchewan. This ensures students receive an authentic, consistent Catholic education at every grade level.
Community Partners

The Alberta Catholic School Trustees’ Association (ACSTA) represents Catholic Boards and Trustees across the province. ACSTA provides guidance on governance best practices and supports Trustees in making informed, accountable decisions.

The Group Grateful Advocates for Catholic Education (GrACE) advocates for Catholic education and a key partner in supporting Trustees. GrACE assists with the establishment and organization of local GrACE Committees in Catholic School Divisions and Parent Teams throughout Alberta and beyond. They provide resources to school divisions to help their committees advocate for Catholic education. Additionally, GrACE organizes provincial and territorial events to connect and empower the Catholic education community.
Strong Governance in Action
The Board of Trustees provides local governance, making decisions on policy, budgets, and strategic direction while keeping families engaged. By collaborating with ACSTA, GrACE, and other partners, Trustees ensure schools are academically excellent, transparent, and faithful to Catholic teachings. Strong governance safeguards our schools now and for generations to come.
Re-elect Laura Thibert as your Trustee. Experience, integrity, and faith guiding every decision.
Together, we can strengthen governance and protect the future of Catholic education.
