Ward 77 is Growing!

Updated: Feb 14, 2022

Spring is here and we are looking forward to longer days, sunshine and warm weather that lifts our spirits, brings trees to life, and many outdoor activities. As summer vacation approaches, we celebrate the achievements that our students have reached during the 2016-2017 school year.

Edmonton Catholic Schools was awarded, for the second year in a row, the Crystal Award recognizing we are one of Alberta’s Top 70 Employers for 2017! We are all #ECSDawesome!

In March the Provincial Capital Announcement came with good news for Ward 77. Our District received money to start the planning and design of a new K-6 school in Ellerslie/The Orchards. The southeast elementary school will have a capacity of 600 and will help lessen the pressure of our 106% utilization rate at schools in this area.

The Board of Trustees approved the three-year Capital Plan for 2018-2021. More good news for Ward 77 - the Board identified as the number one priority a new K-6 school in the Meadows/Laurel area with a capacity of 600.

We look forward to the next school year as two new schools, Corpus Christi Pre-Kindergarten to Grade 9, and Father Michael Mireau Pre-Kindergarten to Grade 9, open in the fall. This is a welcome addition to the community and our families.

The Government of Alberta has passed Bill 1, an Act to Reduce School Fees. The intent of this bill is to reduce transportation fees and school fees by 25%. We are awaiting the release of the guidelines to school districts, which will go into effect on June 1. Look for further communication from your school later in June.

Graduation time is upon us. Congratulations to the 2017 graduates on your achievements! I wish you every success in all that you do as you go forward.
